At a young age, Marisa spent countless hours in her Nana Isabel’s loving kitchen and garden. Whether she was helping to make an afternoon movie snack or preparing for one of the many Carta family Sunday suppers, it was there, that Marisa first found her comfort and a true appreciation for making delicious, scratch-baked confections while using natural and organic ingredients. Years later, after receiving her bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Marisa worked as an art director for a local natural foods market. Being the co-worker who constantly brought in a range of homemade desserts for others to enjoy, Marisa had fallen in love all over again with the art of baking. Finally, after shadowing a kind and wildly talented pastry chef at Chez Panisse in Berkley, Marisa decided to put back on her apron – this time professionally. She graciously took a head baking position at the market (where she was formally an art director) for two years, specializing in organic and gluten free baking until early 2012, when she decided to branch out on her own, thus founding Sweet ‘N’ Flour.
Today, Marisa combines her love of bringing people together through mouthwatering, natural desserts with an intense adoration of sustainable and organic ingredients.
